President's Letter

Moms,

Thank you so much for your interest in the MOMS Club® of the Charles Town Area!

We are a local chapter of the International MOMS (Moms Offering Moms Support) Club (http://www.momsclub.org/). Our organization has the following goals:

  • to provide a support group for mothers who choose to stay at home to raise their children
  • to provide a forum for topics of interest to mothers
  • to help children in our community
  • and, to perform at least one service project yearly helping needy children.

When we reference support, we mean friendship; through the MOMS Club you will be introduced to other women who have experienced the same joys and trials of childrearing. We also offer many new friends for your little ones. Let's face it - sometimes Mommies don't make the best princess or robot playmate! This is a great opportunity for your kids to find other kids with common interests.

When you become a member of the MOMS Club of the Charles Town Area, you will receive our monthly newsletter and calendar of activities.  The calendar is put together each month with the whole club providing input.  Anyone who has an idea for a playgroup, park day, or a community activity can have it put on the monthly calendar.  We find a lot of fun places to go when we put our heads together. We are always open to new ideas and activities!

I was so excited about becoming a stay-at-home Mom, and I love it. While it is the best, most rewarding job I could ever have asked for, it is also at times trying, frustrating, and just plain messy!  I become very jealous of my husband working late, dressing in nice stain-free clothes, having “business lunches” with no crayons or tantrums involved, or even being able to use the bathroom by himself. Those feelings combined with lack of sleep, putting someone else’s needs first, and dealing with the fabulous first days when your child learns how to say "NO" can be too hard to handle by yourself. Our dynamic group of women is always there to lend a hand, ear or just throw you that sympathetic look that says, "I've been there, you will get through this".

Everyone's situation is different, but if you heard yourself anywhere in the above description, I urge you to find a support group - even if ours is not the right one for you (Although we hope it is!). We have a lot to offer, including playgroups, park/pool days, child-friendly tours and day trips, a chance to offer community service, and a monthly Moms Night Out.

Go hug your kids!

Sarah McGivern

President
